Took this at a pit stop
Last weekend, I went for a short trip to Kundasang with my colleagues and husband. We took separate cars up as my husband and I wanted to make a couple pit stops before reaching Kundasang. However we agreed to meet up at Desa and we will decide on what to do after we all reached, say about impromptu huh?
Pit stop for food
While driving up, we've already planned to stop by for Sinalau Bakas (Smoked Wild Boar). We passed by a few stand and nothing caught our fancy. Till we saw this stand and we just decided to drop by and see what they have to offer.
Look at them pork!
When we saw this, we were drooling from the smell and just the look of it. We immediately just felt so hungry and ordered one. Not only that, we were also surprise how it was prepared, cooked over green wood instead of charcoal.
So big!
Good lord of BABI!
After good food and beautiful view, we get back to the road and head to Desa Farm.
Husband getting excited over cows
It was getting late and the sky was turning grey. Once again we hit the road and drive down to Kundasang town and decided to visit Kundasang War Memorial.
Entrance Of Kundasang War Memorial
An entrance fee is needed to visit the site, RM3 for local adult. Inside the place is a garden filled with beautiful flowers
Morning dew on a small flower
Up close of hydrangea (My very 1st time seeing a fresh one)
Short poem for the brave men who lost their life during the march
History on the dead march
A random picture is a must!
The site visit was interesting and it just kinda reminded me how bless that we are born in an era where countries leaders are trying and working hard towards a peaceful way to deal with disagreements.
Soon after we realized that we needed to head to our hostel, we stayed at Nikgold garden. But unfortunately, I didn't manage to get any pictures as I was exhausted from the long drive and waking early in the morning.
We had a small bbq gathering with my colleagues and hit the hay at 10pm as we needed to head out from the hostel at 5am. Because we be going for a hike at Megarang Hill and needed to be there by 5.30am to register and prepare for the leg torturing hike.
Wake up in the morning feeling like P.diddy. (5.30am morning sunrise)
As Sabahan we can be, the plan was to leave the hostel at 5am but in the end, we left at 5.30am. Because of my colleague and I, we are the hardest to wake us up. We reached the meeting point at about 6am and thankfully the transport to the hiking point haven't left yet.
Random dog at the start of the hiking point
We got dropped off and the hike begins!
Just looking at it got me scare
Group photo when we reached the peak
The entrance of the hill was muddy gravel from the rain during the early morning. After maybe a good 10 to 20 mins, we got into the jungle and that's where the real hike begins.
The track up to the peak is about 2km and it was the longest 2km I've ever walked. It took us about an hour to reach the peak and the route was muddy, slippery and everything else. At the half way mid point, the air felt dense and it was difficult to breathe. But it was only me, the others was okay.
At the peak, we did not manage to see Mount Akinabalu as the fog was very thick. Nonetheless, we enjoy the cold breeze and took some sandwich to bust our energy.
As mention above, we took the loop track so instead of going down the route we took going up. We went the other side and before we start. The guide mention that the route will be considered as extreme, if this was a game the level of it will be extra extra hard. Say what now?
Well being a fool, I was like "let's do it, how bad can it be?". Well for those who haven't went up. IT WAS BAD.
The route down was bout below 45 degree slope and all that is to support us was ropes and tree to hold on. Remembering that the soil was wet and slippery, I fell down a couple of times and soon my shoes were out of services. However the last 200m was the worst, the route was all in slope much more below 45 degree and there were not much tree to hold on to and next to the route is the river with full of rocks. Scare die me.
But overall, it was an enjoying trip and hike. Would I hike this hill again? Yes. But not so soon la. My legs are still sore.
